Pipe Wrap: Wrap Seal PLUS Fiberglass Repair Tape

Fiberglass Repair Tape - Wrap Seal PLUS Fiberglass Repair Tape

Wrap Seal PLUS Fiberglass Repair Tape is a polyurethane coated pipe wrap which uses to reinforce thinning pipe wall thickness and increase dimensional stability caused by corrosion, thereby bringing the pipeline back to its design operating pressure.

Wrap Seal PLUS Fiberglass Repair Tape specially designed for repairing pipes with straight section, elbows, t-joints,reducers, flanges, valves, etc. Wrap the pipe as tightly and evenly as possible, pulling slightly after each round of wrapping. As the fiberglass repair tape is wrapped, spray the tape with water. Apply the entire roll of pipe wrap over the pipe surface with at least 50% overlap for the entire pipe repair length.

Curing time of Wrap Seal PLUS Fiberglass Repair Tape is 1 minute after being in contact with water. For large product size (e.g. 4” x 20’, 4” x 30’, 6” x 20’ and 6” x 30’) do not dip the entire fiberglass repair tape into water as there will not be sufficient working time to wrap the entire roll. Instead, spray the pipe wrap heavily with water as these large product sizes are wrapped around the pipe.

Allow curing in accordance to the minimum curing time at room temperature before operation. If faster curing is required, heat up the surface slightly to shorten curing time. On the contrary, if longer curing time is required (e.g. when wrapping Wrap Seal PLUS Fiberglass Repair Tape on steam or high temperature pipes), dip the Wrap Seal PLUS Fiberglass Repair Tape into icy cold water to gain extra working time.

Wrap Seal PLUS Fiberglass Repair Tape may cause eye irritation. Avoid eye contact. Flush eyes with plenty of water and seek immediate medical attention. Handle uncured product with gloves provided. Prolonged skin contact with uncured material may cause skin irritation. Should skin contact occur, wash with non-abrasive soap and water. Avoid prolonged breathing of vapors from uncured material.

Wrap Seal PLUS Fiberglass Repair Tape is coated with polyurethane resin that will react and cure once in contact with water. It is used for wrapping around pipes to re-mediate and reinforce and thereby improve pipe integrity. After curing, the product will cure rock hard and adhere strongly onto the pipe.

Corrosion Repair & Reinforcement For Pipes

It is assumed that this is a simple pipe corrosion repair without any leaks.Materials Required for Repair:1. Wrap Seal PLUS Resin and Activator2. Wrap Seal PLUS Fiberglass Repair Tap3. Application Tools
  • (a). Surface preparation tools: Mechanical power tools or hand tools (e.g. course files, sand papers, saw (blades, wire brush, etc.)
  • (b). Rubber gloves for material handling
  • (c). Personnel protection: safety glasses, hand equipment gloves, face mask/ self-breathing apparatus, etc.
  • (d). Paint brushes for application of Wrap Seal PLUS Resin and Activator
  • (e). Cleaning fluid: Solvent-based degreaser for cleaning surfaces
  • (f). Pail of water (0.5 liters) for activating Wrap Seal PLUS Fiberglass Repair Tape

Corrosion Repair and Reinforcement Procedure:

  1. Ensure that the surface is clean and dry. Remove all dirt, old paint coatings, rust, and other contaminates by abrasive blasting or other suitable mechanical techniques. Clean and degrease the surface thoroughly using solvent-based cleaner & degreaser. Areas that are immersed in oil must be cleaned repeatedly to draw the oil out of the surface. Use a hot air gun or compressed air gun to force oil out of the pores. Allow the surface to cool, then degrease again. After cleaning, roughen the surface to produce a good anchor profile of 60 to 80 microns.
  2. Put on the latex gloves and pour the entire bottle of Wrap Seal PLUS hardener into resin tin can. Mix and stir the activated resin mixture for at least five minutes until they are well-mixed.
  3. Using a roller or paint brush, apply the activated resin liberally promptly and evenly over the area to be repaired quickly and immediately(as the working time of the activated resin is 10 minutes). The coating of Wrap Seal PLUS activated resin should be approximately 1.0mm thick and cover the entire prepared area.
  4. Allow the first coating to be cured tack-free for approximately 2 hours (at ambient temperature of 30°C) before applying the second coating. There should be a minimum of 2 layers of coating of Wrap Seal Plus Resin and Activator onto the pipe surface.
    • NOTE: Do not reuse any left-over activated resin in a mixed container or pour new sets of resin and activator into used tin cans. When mixing several sets of Wrap Seal PLUS Resin and Activator into a mixing container, ensure that all resin and hardener from each container are drained out completely.
  5. Put on the latex gloves and tear open Wrap Seal PLUS Fiberglass Repair Tape and start wrapping the pipe wrap. The wrapping of fiberglass tape should start at least 100mm before the affected area. Wrap the pipe as tightly and evenly as possible, pulling slightly after each round of wrapping.
  6. As the fiberglass repair tape is wrapped, spray the pipe wrap with water. Apply the entire roll over the pipe surface with at least 50% overlap for the entire pipe repair length. Repeat the wrapping for at least 4 layers of Wrap Seal PLUS Fiberglass Repair Tape and finally tapering off with approximately 25mm over each wrapping layer.
    • NOTE: The wrapping direction should be done in one direction (clockwise or counter clockwise)and working time is approximately 20 to 30 seconds for each roll of fiberglass tape (at pipe surface temperature of 30°C). Spraying of water should be performed continuously as the fiberglass repair tape is wrapped around the pipe.
  7. After using one roll of Wrap Seal PLUS Fiberglass Repair Tape, immediately open another roll of Wrap Seal Plus Fiberglass Repair Tape, and continue the wrapping process by overlapping the end of the previous fiberglass tape with at least 100mm of the continuing fiberglass tape.
  8. While wrapping the fiberglass tape onto the pipe, consistently pour water onto the pipe wrap. Wet latex gloves in water and compress the bubbling resins back into the pipe wrap by rapidly and firmly stroking the surface with a back and forth motion. After wrapping of the fiberglass tape is completed, continue to pour water onto the repaired pipe section, rapidly and firmly stroke the surface with a back and forth motion until the pipe wrap is cured.
  9. Allow the repaired area to be cured for at least 4 hours (at ambient temperature of 30°C) and the repair job is completed.
